The Making Waves Foundation, formerly Sailors with Disabilities, is guided by our board members who are a highly experienced diverse range of people with extraordinary skills in a wide range of sectors.

David Pescud

Vice President & Founder

David is dyslexic. He can't read or write and left school at 15. Yet he retired in his early 40s to devote his life to his first love, sailing. More particularly, to devote himself to creating the opportunity for disabled people, especially kids, to learn to sail.

Andrew King

President 

Andrew King has moved into the board role of President. Andrew has extensive business experience in a broad range of manufacturing and distribution businesses. He has superior communication skills, a passion for brands and organisations.

Clive Hassett

Treasurer

Clive is the Treasurer for Making Waves Foundation having originally qualified as an accountant in the UK. He has lived and worked in a number of countries in his role as a senior executive with one of the world’s largest commercial insurance companies

John (Jack) Gray

Secretary

John has a lifelong association with sailing. He is a partner of a law practice where he practises commercial law and currently sits on several private boards. He has been involved for many years in a voluntary capacity in sporting and community clubs.

James Hunter

Board Member

James is blind. He lost his eyesight in 2015 and is now committed to open the eyes of others to what might be possible with a positive mind-set, determination and the support of good people. James is an active member and volunteer of the MWF.

Peter Lewis

Board Member

Peter is a chemical engineer by training. Peter had an extensive corporate career working for public multinationals in sugar, explosive, plastics and chemical industries locally and overseas. In the late 1980's Peter established his own engineering and polymer company.

Merrilyn Clancy, PhD, MAICD

Board Member

Merrilyn is a motivated healthcare director, experienced in both the not-for-profit, private and public sectors. She understands medium and large organizations operating in highly regulated environments.
