Role Description

Making Waves Foundation

Volunteer, School and Admin Coordinator - Part Time/Full Time

We work near the waterfront in Rushcutters Bay.

Making Waves is a unique charity. We take disabled and disadvantaged children on sailing adventures on big ocean racing yachts.

Sounds exciting? It is!

We are on the lookout for someone who has that special blend of being ‘relational’ as well as ‘process minded’. That’s because this job is as much about empowering our national volunteer team and engaging with school enquiries as it is about keeping our processes and schedules working.

If you have a warm and helpful personality, excellent office skills, some basic data base skills, and you think you can do this job better than anyone else, then this job could be for you.

Oh, and if you would like to go out on the occasional sail with us, you will be very welcome, but it’s not mandatory.

Duties include the following activities:

  • Basic account admin
  • Volunteer coordination
  • School engagement - bookings
  • Answering the phone
  • Basic office management
  • Basic reporting
  • Basic data base management
  • Some events support
  • Social media posts
  • Manning the office

We have 260 very engaged volunteers, and we are growing. We are like a big collaborative family. We have lots of heart, motivation, and plenty of sailing.

We take safety seriously, as well as inclusion. We serve around 5,000 clients a year.

Our purpose is simple; to share the love of sailing and the environment with people who otherwise wouldn’t experience such things. We work hard at it and have a lot of fun. It’s a lively office.

If you think you can bring passion and drive to our busy office, and do a better job than anyone else, then please apply.

This could be a full time or part time role for the right people.

The downside: we work from a sail loft in a heritage building in a maritime environment.  It’s a fantastic space with lots of natural light and old wooden floors, a small kitchen etc, however it is up one flight of stairs (no lift) and our toilets are not in our loft. It’s a 20 second outside walk from the office to the facilities.  So, if this worries you, it’s something you need to consider.

We are trying to get into a new office, but we aren’t there yet.
