Seeking Hobart Outreach Volunteer Crew

Sailors With disABILITIES will be back in Hobart in 2017 running Winds of Joy programs from 15th-28th February. This program offers children with disabilities and disadvantaged people an opportunity to enjoy the freedom, teamwork and adventure of sailing.

SWD has been running the program successfully for many years in Sydney as well as in Melbourne and Queensland, and our program earlier this year in Hobart reached over 200 young people.

We are looking for experienced sailors to volunteer as crew on board the 54 yacht Kayle. Your commitment would need to be a
minimum of two days, ideally more.

Skills and competencies needed are:

  • Basic knowledge of boating and sailing;
  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to communicate well with children and young people;
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team;
  • Punctuality, reliability and flexibility.

In addition you will need to:

  • become a member of SWD
  • provide a Working With Children Registration number,
  • attend a briefing session before the program.
