Before their Winds of Joy Experience began, the students from Orara High School near CoffsHarbour on the NSW Mid North Coast, were mostly extremely nervous. Most of them had never been on a boat before and certainly not out into the open ocean.
'This adventure was definitely out of their comfort zone!' said Lisa Vercoe from Orara High School. 'They all held it together really well, with plenty of excitement and anticipation'.
Despite the nerves, once onboard Kayle the students quickly found that the volunteer crew from Sailors with disABILITIES were warm and welcoming. 'The Crew certainly included the students into every aspect of sailing the yacht' Lisa said.
A week later and they are all still talking about their BIG adventure. Lisa says they are all so proud of their achievement and the overall experience 'has really meant a lot to each of these students, we all LOVED it!'
